PILOTING COMMERCIAL PRODUCTION AND EFFICIENT USE OF BRIQUETTES FROM SUGARCANE BAGASSE FOR RURAL HOUSEHOLDS IN THE SUGARBELT REGION OF KENYA

The overall goal of this project is to achieve sustainable supply of renewable energy for rural communities in the sugar belt region of Kenya by shifting from firewood and charcoal to briquettes. The project will demonstrate local production of briquettes to be used either in raw or carbonized form for cooking. To enhance efficiency for household application, the project will demonstrate the use of improved cookstove, a proven efficient system based on rocket technology. Further, the project will develop models for commercialization of the technologies to be undertaken by the local private sector.
