d.light Delivers Energy Access and Employment for Women in Kenya

d.light’s project targeted the primarily rural Central and Eastern regions of Kenya, creating sustainable economic opportunities for 565 people (282 women) by establishing new distribution chain for solar lanterns. In addition, the project empowered 315,000 women and their households with access to solar powered lighting and energy solutions.

 

Outcome and Impact:

This project directly created 736 job opportunities and reached 247,135 unique households. More than 283,087 solar lanterns were sold in the Kenyan market including 7 varieties of solar solutions. As a result of this project, carbon emission reductions of  446,710 tCO2eq were achieved.
