GCS Tanzania

Scaling solar lantern and clean cookstove distribution through village entrepreneurship

The project aimed to deliver goods and services through a dense network of local entrepreneurs. The company is building a network of micro-entrepreneurs called “Rafiki,” who provide continual access to GCS technologies (solar, cookstoves, and agricultural machines) and services to the bottom of the pyramid. Each Rafiki is directly supported by a regional team to ensure quality service delivery. The company teach each Rafiki how to market, sell, and maintain our products, including problem troubleshooting, broken light replacement, and collection of customer feedback for new product demand.

By the end of this EEP project period, GCS aimed to reach, access, and be trusted by over 200,000 households, becoming a household name for delivering truly transformative technologies.

Outcome and Impact:

The renewable solutions provided reduce annual emissions by 7,293 tCO2eq. During the project period 33,057 Households were accessed. 438 part-time and 57 full-time jobs created. 428.34 MWh/year energy saved through installation of energy efficient technologies.
