NewLight Africa (as Heya! in Kenya) distributes a range of energy efficient & renewable energy products, including solar PV, cookstoves (primarily ethanol), and ethanol fuel. This project expanded the geographical and contextual reach of NewLight Africa’s business model innovations. NewLight Africa solves two key unmet customer needs in the energy access market: Access to reliable products from a trustworthy brand via last-mile distribution network; and Affordability of products through the asset financing model.

Outcome and Impact

As a result of this project, 9794 tonnes of CO2 emissions were averted annually, based on the sale of 10,235 solar lights and 1,668 cook stoves. These sales improved access to off-grid clean energy for 41,231 households. 70 jobs were created as a direct result of this project.
