CREATING RENEWABLE ENERGY FROM SANITATION SERVICES IN URBAN SLUMS

The objective of the project funded by EEP was to demonstrate the technical feasibility and business viability of industrial-scale biogas generation from sewage sludge and organic waste in Kenya, to add to our circular economy model. This included technical demonstration of biogas generation from co-digestion of sewage sludge with organic waste in a 200m3 pilot plant at our waste processing plant in Athi River, Machakos County, to produce heat and electricity as by-products. The project involved securing the necessary permits and approvals from local authorities to set up the biogas plant.
