The Waste Transformers

Introducing small-scale waste-to-energy technology to South Africa

The project installed small-scale, modular digestion technology that is applicable for rural municipalities, businesses, hospitals, and other small-scale waste producers over South Africa. The technology is flexible, therefore suitable for African off-grid applications where other technologies are not. The digester was installed at a shopping mall in Cape Town, demonstrating to small-scale waste producers how their organic waste can power their green growth. Together with the technology, the partners introduced a “business-in-a-box” concept for replication through local SMEs and entrepreneurs in rural areas.
