Existing fishing boats will be retrofitted with electric outboard engines through an affordable leasing model. Local fishers will have access to a full-service “propulsion-as-a-service” model on a PAYG basis and at a cost 20% lower than petrol. This will have a positive economic impact on low-income fishermen and reduce both GHG emissions and oil spillages. EEP Africa financing will enable ASOBO to demonstrate an innovative e-mobility technology and business model on African lakes.
For every 100 petrol motors replaced by ASOBO e-Boarders, more than 1,000 tCO2e is saved per year, which is equivalent to taking 300 cars off the road.
