Jaza Energy

Solar Energy Hubs for Last-Mile Access

This project scaled up access to clean electricity in rural villages in Tanzania through 34 solar energy hubs. Each hub is operated by local women and offers customers home electrification kits and rental battery packs. Jaza developed a country-wide network of regional offices and rural community hubs, which allows the company to maintain close relationships with customers and offer operational and technological solutions that are adapted to the local market. EEP Africa financing enabled the company’s expansion and helped to attract additional growth financing for its business model.

Outcome and Impact

The project enhance energy access for 33,403 people in remote villages and created operational and management jobs for 136 local women. Jaza Energy raised an additional EUR 1.09M to further expand its operations in Tanzania during the project period.
