The project aimed to reduce poverty and achieve greater access to sustainable energy for rural households in Southern Africa by piloting a scalable locally built biomass cook stove delivery model. Expected outputs included a delivery model for large scale roll-out and commercialisation, a registered voluntary Gold Standard project and stoves installed in 5000 rural households.
Outcome and Impact:
More than 4000 Brickstar stoves were installed in the Nwamitwa Area in the Limpopo Province of South Africa. 41 people from the local area were trained and employed during the installation and monitoring of the stoves. Households can save 2 tCO2eq per year if they use this stove instead of the traditional open fire. This creates the potential for up to 6500 tC02eq emission reductions annually.
