SCALING UP SUSTAINABLE CHARCOAL BRIQUETTE PRODUCTION IN TANZANIA

The objective of the project was to enable a fuel switch from unsustainable charcoal to sustainable non-wood charcoal in households. The project aimed to expand the supply of non-wood charcoal and thereby make it a real market alternative to non-sustainable charcoal. The project assisted CBEs producing non-wood charcoal briquettes from agricultural waste (dry biomass) to enhance their production capacities. Non-wood charcoal briquette quality improvement, charcoal producer training and technical advisory on further technology development and assessment of financial mechanisms were the main elements of the project.
