Jaza Energy to be Featured at Enlit Africa 2022

In November 2021, an international jury of experts selected Jaza Energy as the 2021 EEP Africa Scale Up Project of the Year for its battery rental service and network of women-operated solar energy hubs in Tanzania. Jaza has pioneered a way to deliver solar energy in last-mile communities by putting women at the centre of its business model. The company has deployed 63 hubs across three regions (Pemba, Kigoma and Mtwara), providing electricity to 51,000 people. The hubs are operated 100% by women, referred to as Jaza Stars, who are hired from the local community.

Jaza Energy, represented by CEO Jeff Schnurr, will be showcased during Enlit Africa 2022 on a panel moderated by Faith Chege, Portfolio Coordinator at EEP Africa. They will also be joined by Wim Jonker Klunne, Coordinator, Household Solar Funders Group, as they share their practical knowledge and industry experience. The panel, entitled “Scaling up your Clean Energy Business,” will take place on Day 2 (June 8th).

This panel will discuss how to scale up your clean energy business. Specifically, it will explore:

  • Consequence of flexible financing options and pliable business plans
  • Importance of good data
  • Merging the criteria of multiple stakeholders into a range of success factors that are achievable
  • The difference between developing and scaling companies
  • Do mature companies need grant funding?

As a registered delegate, you will also see Faith Chege in action at the Roundtable discussion on Day 3 (Thursday 9th June), where she will share her experience across a range of sector segments, discussing the need for diversity and inclusivity to drive agility and increase the ability of businesses to thrive in an ever-changing world.
