Nordic Development Fund (NDF) launched a new publication on the role of challenge funds in spurring climate innovation at COP24 in Katowice, Poland, on Tuesday 11 December in an NDF-organised side event at the Nordic Pavilion.
NDF’s publication Spurring climate innovation through challenge funds explores innovation spurred by two challenge funds that are managed by NDF, EEP Africa and the Nordic Climate Facility (NCF). It is the first time a systematic approach has been used to assess how NDF fosters innovation through these challenge funds. The focus of the study was on the EEP Africa and NCF applications that have a Nordic partner.
One of the findings of the study is that innovations can take many forms and there is space for innovation on a number of fronts. Technological innovation was seen only in a small portion of all project applications.
