EEP Africa Supervisory Board convenes in Kigali, Rwanda
February 09, 2026
The EEP Africa Supervisory Board gathered in Kigali, Rwanda, for a three-day annual meeting bringing together funding partners of the EEP Africa Trust Fund. The two-day Board discussions were followed by field visits to portfolio companies operating in Northern Rwanda and concluded with a Partner Event to wrap up the week.
Each year, the Supervisory Board reviews the fund’s progress, results, and strategic direction. Key strategic areas for future development include enhanced evidence-based management and learning systems, including long-term tracking of grantee progression, as well as enhanced operational coordination with sector partners. On the final day, the delegation travelled to Musanze to visit two EEP Africa–supported companies: OX Rwanda and OffGridBox.

OX Rwanda, supported through EEP Africa, is transforming rural logistics in Rwanda with purpose built electric trucks that offer affordable, reliable transport-as-a-service for smallholder farmers. Their electric trucks have completed 260 zero emission deliveries covering 18,000 km in just one season. These solutions continue to reduce post-harvest losses, expand market access, and strengthen rural livelihoods across the region. Their electric trucks help reduce postharvest losses, expand market access, and strengthen rural livelihoods across the region.
With EEP Africa’s support, OX Rwanda continues to expand clean, reliable logistics that reduce post-harvest losses and increase farmer incomes. Their model is proving essential for agricultural districts like Musanze, where better transport directly translates into higher yields reaching the market. Beyond transporting fresh produce, OX Rwanda is also building out additional revenue streams that strengthen the entire agricultural value chain. In parallel with produce collection, the company delivers essential inputs such as animal feed and fertilisers to farmers ensuring they have what they need on time and at the right price. OX Rwanda also transports biomass pellets from Biomassters, another EEP Africa grantee, from their production site to Kigali, helping reinforce clean‑energy supply chains across the country. Together, these services are demonstrating how integrated, clean logistics can uplift rural economies, reduce waste, and build resilient, climate‑aligned markets.

OffGridBox, a former EEP Africa grantee, delivers modular solar-powered systems providing reliable electricity and clean water to underserved communities, including refugee settlements and rural health facilities in districts such as Musanze. Their installations now reach over 12,000 people, producing up to 12 kWh of energy per day for households, clinics, and productive use businesses. More than 900 clients use OffGridBox kits, and an additional 10,000 people recharge their devices each month at its units. These solar‑powered systems provide reliable electricity and clean water to underserved communities, including refugee settlements and rural health facilities in districts such as Musanze.
OffGridBox strengthens community resilience by reducing waterborne disease, powering essential medical services, and creating income opportunities through local operators and entrepreneurs. The model demonstrates how integrated clean energy and water solutions can drive both health and economic impact in rural Rwanda.

To conclude our week, we hosted an EEP Africa Partner Event at the Kigali Convention Centre — an engaging half‑day session that brought together innovators, entrepreneurs, development partners, and clean‑energy stakeholders from across Rwanda and the region. The event featured an introduction to EEP Africa’s work and impact, testimonials from portfolio companies, and an overview of the upcoming Call for Proposals, designed to support early‑stage, locally driven clean‑energy solutions. Participants had the opportunity to connect during the networking lunch, ask questions during the Q&A session, and learn more about how EEP Africa’s grant financing, technical assistance, and investment facilitation can support emerging businesses.
We also presented the world premiere of our 15-year anniversary video. Join us as we commemorate EEP Africa’s 15‑year journey of advancing clean energy access, supporting innovative entrepreneurs, and driving sustainable development across Southern and Eastern Africa. This milestone is a tribute to the visionaries, partners, donors, and local communities who have walked with us, believed in our mission, and helped turn bold ideas into real impact. Thank you for your continued support, collaboration, and commitment to a greener, more inclusive future.
