O&L Energy Namibia

Invader Bush to Energy

The project aimed to transform invader bush into a heating fuel for industrial applications, such as the steam (or high pressure hot water) generating boilers within our group and coal-replacement fuel for industrial users in Namibia. The business operation involved the selective harvesting of invader bush (primarily Sekelbos (Dichrostachys cinerea) and Swarthak (Acacia mellifera) and processing of the biomass into a suitable fuel form (dry, chipped wood).

Outcome and Impact:

This project has the potential to reduce C02 emissions by 45,500 tonnes over its lifetime.  Ten new permanent jobs were created as a result of this project. Energy generated as a result of this project totals to 30,100 MWh/Year.

Success Story: O&L generates 4MW of energy from the invader bush in Namibia >>
