BIOGAS-POWERED MILK CHILLING FOR SMALLHOLDER DAIRY FARMERS

The project aimed at the provision of electricity from Rice Husk Gasification (32 kW) for the community of Mbingu, Kilombero District (Tanzania) through a mini-grid including 150 domestic connections, 15 SMEs and 2 institutions. Furthermore, the objective of the project was the production and commercialization of green charcoal using the byproduct of the gasification process. Outcome and Impact:

This project resulted in annual emission reductions of 31,70 tCO2eq/year. Energy access was gained by 68 HHs, 9 SME and 3 institutions with access to electricity, 1167 HHs with access to green charcoal. This project created 3 full time jobs for men and youth and 4 part-time jobs for women (all permanent). The energy outputs of this project include 32 kW Briquetting production: up to 400 Kg/day, 55.440 kWh/year electricity generated, and 90.667 kWh/year of heat generated.
