The project planned to introduce an improved charcoal production plant in Tanzania. The objective was to produce charcoal in a more efficient and more environmentally sustainable way than the traditional method. The project aimed to reduce the unsustainable extraction of biomass from indigenous forests for charcoal production and the GHG emissions that result from it. Instead of using biomass from indigenous forests, the project used biomass residues from GRAS’ sustainably grown forests as a raw material.
