The Forest Diesel for Improved Rural Livelihoods pilot a project aimed to prove the potential and applicability of forest-based feedstock utilization in bio diesel production in a way that maximized additional income opportunities to rural inhabitants. The specific objective of the project was to find out the advantages of the whole value chain of forest-based bio diesel production. It sought to promote technologies and approaches that would help the rural poor around Mount Kenya gain access to clean, affordable and sustainable energy services. This was done through commercialization of renewable energy technologies, particularly production of biodiesel from Croton megalocarpus, adoption of fuel saving stoves and biomass waste recycling.The main objective of the project is to prove the potential and applicability of indigenous forest-based feedstock utilization in SVO and bio diesel production in a way maximizing the additional income opportunities to rural inhabitants.
