Inyenyeri project

Bridging the funding gap to commercial financing

Inyenyeri´s mission is to prevent death and disease from household air pollution and the purpose of the project was to prove a scalable model to solve the environmental and health problems associated with biomass cooking. Inyenyeri did this by providing stoves to customers for a nominal fee and in turn the customers agreeing to purchase (or trade for) a minimum quantity of biomass fuel pellets each month. Inyenyeri promises to maintain all stoves in strong working order free of charge to customers as long as they buy their pellets.

Outcome and Impact:

An estimated 10,000 annual cumulative tCO2 eq emission reductions were achieved during the project period. 1,910 households gained improved access to energy efficiency products and 97 direct jobs created.

Success Story: Government of Rwanda is first in Africa to embrace biomass energy development with broad VAT exemptions >>
