The project focused on the creation and operation of 80 multi-services solar stations (MSS) in 4 provinces of Burundi (20 MSS/province). They were to be equipped with solar panels, batteries and all relevant accessories. These MSS would each employ 3 or 4 individuals with the primary activities being: Barbershop services with two professional hair clippers/razors; Cell phones/devices charging station; Quality and affordable PICO and other small solar E-systems sales point. The project aimed not only to provide sustainable revenue for the employees but mainly to create a hub around the MSS. Moreover, the venture would increase awareness of the benefits of renewable energies and provide the base for expansion by using a portion of the proceeds to build more multi-services solar stations.
Outcome and Impact:
The project provided 3892 households with access to renewable energy as a result of this project and 1045 direct jobs were created. 5.63 kWh energy was generated from renewable energy systems.
