Scaling-up Solar Solutions in Kenya

The project scaled up and further rolled out its business model of increase access and affordability of solar solutions, bringing them to the doorstep of low- and medium income households in selected areas in Kenya. The company set up a wide distribution network of branch locations, staffed and equipped for sales and after-sales services to its target group. The company, through its financial partners, offered its customers a customized loan for the purchase of a system with a repayment period of 3 to 30 months. This put solar systems in the reach of low-income households that currently use unsustainable lighting for their homes and support them to reduce their expenditure on energy-related costs.

Nearly 400 thousand euros of economic benefits achieved through uptake of renewable energy or energy efficiency services, primarily from household savings. 628 tC02e emission reductions achieved annually due to this project, which was able to reach 6,828 households during the project duration.
