Biogas for Rural Households and Communities

In this project TED piloted for the first time in Lesotho the use of prefabricated biogas plants for turning all kind of organic household and small farm waste into energy. 100 prefabricated biogas plants of up to 5 different technology providers were installed in 5 locations in Berea District supplying households and two schools for turning organic waste into energy.

 

Outcome and Impact:

As a result of this project emission reductions of 158 tCO2eq were achieved annually. An estimated 60 households gained improved access to off-grid clean energy. During the project 32 jobs were created directly.
